Baltimore turning the ship around?
BaltimoreThe Baltimore Orioles last couple of seasons have been dismal to say the least and many fans stopped going to the games. As they lost and lost and lost. When they got a new owner a few years back expectations got higher but the fans saw a owner who started to rebuild which meant the Orioles went even deeper down the drain and was far away from the playoffs. Then last year fans saw some light in the darkness as they improved and had a bunch of rookies showing potential.

Thus far this season Baltimore surprsingly lead the charge in the eastern with more wins than losses. And then the fans got ecstatic when Baltimore traded to get Star pitchers Roy Oswalt and Kery Wood.

"Now we will win!" Shouted a fanatic fan after the pressconferance.

"We felt we missed some pieces to the puzzle. And we have been looking for pitchers for quite awhile. When we saw the chance to aquire two pitchers which can help us out right now we decided to act." Owner Axelsson told the press. "We feel we gave up alot of talent in this deal but we get immidiate help which hopefully mean we don't give away so many scoring oppertunities anymore."

"We still have a few pieces missing. We will see if we can make some more moves to fill does pieces of the puzzle."

Baltimore is 11-9 before the arrival of Oswalt and Wood. Will the team improve their record now?

2008 Twins Preview
MinnesotaAfter a sub par 2007 season Twins fans are looking forward with caution to the 2008 season. Long time favorite Gates was traded and than retired after the '07 season and has joined us in the booth for an in depth look at the 2008 Minnesota Twins.

Free agency opens the off season with few if any stars available. The Twins have 6 open roster spots on the 25 man squad. 11 pitchers return from '07, so maybe 1 of the 6 spots will taken by a bullpen arm. Jason Barbera looks to have the best pure stuff but his control is suspect. Larghe' says he as 3 to 4 guys he has spoken on his short list but nothing outstanding to report at this time. Keep in mind the Twins only have about 2.5 million in cap room for those 6 spots, which is just over the 300k base pay. Looking at their triple A club Durham we see Thomas Sousa, Jason Windsor, George Perez. Our bet is one if not two of these guys will get the first shot before we see them sign a free agent. They have faired pretty well in Durham and just need to take what they learned there and use it in the majors.

With the pitching staff pretty well set we turn our attention to the line-up and bench. Two big offense moves were made in 2007. the first was bringing over Albert Pujols. In just 55 games he hit 13 home runs and drove in 66. Now can we expect him to triple those numbers? 39 home runs and 198 rbi's? Would be nice but realistically 35 home runs and 130 rbi's is our prediction. His bat in the line-up will only help those around him add to their own increase in production. The second deal brought over one of the toughest batters to get out Ichiro Suzuki, yes he is 34 now and wont steal 90 bases, but with Ichiro slated #2 in the batting order behind Damon we should see our offense which was already rated 4th move to one of the top 2. A couple of other holes to fill will be both 2b and SS. Ronny Cedeno and William Penning will use spring training games to battle for the 2b starting job and Rickie Weeks and Derek Jeter II will both get a look at starting SS. Our bet is 3 of the 4 will make the team. Another rookie who will get a good look at making the team is Jay McMorrow. With the trade for Ichiro the three starting spots are filled, but the team really likes this kid and what he has done in Durham at only 20yr old has been impressive. Another rookie who we thought would be called up but my be delayed now is Frederick Moritz. When Albert came over it gave the team 3 corner guys. Hafner's late contract extension also set Moritz back a little. They would love to find a spot for him, but getting regular at bats are important.

Several questions still for the Twins to answer as far as line-ups and bench depth, but we see them chasing Chicago and competing for the wild card again in 2008.

Twins 3b short wish list leaked
MinnesotaAn unconfirmed source within the Twins leaked out to the media today what appears to be the copies of Top level mgmt notes on who the Minnesota Twins were looking at going after to fill the hole at 3b. We dont have confirmation if the the players agents or teams listed have be contacted by the twins and efforts are being made by local stations to confirm any such talks in progress.
Here's some of the transcript we have received:

Twins Press Forward
MinnesotaFans are thrilled in the Twins City this week with all the news their Team has traded for a top elite pitcher and one of the best lead off men in the league, not to mention a total bull pen over haul. At the start of the season many around the league questioned the Twins signing 7 rule 5 guys. Their plan seemed to be a rebuild , and rumor has it that the 1 thru 4 starters in the rotation were being shopped. Sources close to the team even confirmed a deal that had all four arms going to one team. thats right All four starters were in a deal to one team. Imagine that deal if it were completed. The Twins looked to rookies and rule 5 guys to fill the rotation. As time passed and team leaders talked to mgmt it was apparent that they wanted a chance to compete for a post season spot. hell they were back more last year and made an historic run at it in the end. So with a run in mind they went out and picked up a top lead off hitter in Damon, along with Pedro who still can bring the heat. Gates who has been struggling will move to the 5th spot and both Kazmir and Wislon who looked to be working on control for next year left the team.

Rosado Defies Experts, Starts 3 Straight Games!
SaskatoonThe local newspaper reported today that there was some concern that GM Rice was trying to destroy the arm and career of Jose Rosado, one of the starting pitcher stars for the Samurai. GM Rice denied the statements and claimed ignorance as to what actually happened but did praise Rosado for his rubber arm! "We're not really sure what happened," indicated GM Rice, "We're still investigating fully what exactly happened, but it certainly appears that Jose went out and started three straight games. The amazing thing is that he pitched a complete game in his first two starts and, not surprisingly, only lasted 1 inning in his third consecutive day of starting!" The Samurai won all three games with the offense coming out in force to support Rosado's attempt to make history and pitch 27 straight innings in three days but Rosado was finally done after 19 innings in three days.

Rosado pitched nine innings against the Cards on June 11, allowing 4 runs and striking out 12. On June 12th, Rosado again flummoxed the Cards, going 9 innings and giving up only 2 runs and striking out 8. However, on June 13th, the Cards finally caught on and chased him after an inning where he gave up 5 runs.

Reporters finally caught up to Rosado later in the week and he was all grins. "I thought it would be funny to disguise myself as Cahill and Orpitz, our two rookies and they were willing to play along." He sheepishly admitted it was a bad idea but thought it was kinda fun in the middle of it. "Hey, its not like we were even losing in the third game after that first inning - our team was still up 7-5!"

GM Rice promised that he would be much more observant and paying attention in the future that these types of things wouldn't happen again...although how it actually happened still remains a mystery! At least it was pretty much a happy ending thus far!

SF makes a change
San FranciscoAfter a dismal start to the season, and after high expectations, the Giants have decided to re-assign their Manager, and promote their current bench coach to manager.

"This is not an easy decision, but one that has to be made,"said Jeff Fortney, Jr. in the press release. "We are making a few personnel changes as well.

"Our bullpen has exceeded expectations, but our overall play is far below what we expect.

"We have reassigned our Manager to AAA, as he works will with youth. Our AAA manager has been relieved of his duties. We thank him for his efforts.

"We will complete the year with no bench coach, but I know our new manager can rely on his hitting and pitching coaches to assist in his new duties.

"There is still time to be competitive," he concluded.

San Francisco finds themselves 8 games out of first with a 24-36 record.

Spliffs and Wang Agree on Extension
WinnipegWednesday, April 4th, 2007: Spliffs and Wang Agree on Extension
Fans hailed the signing of Chien-ming Wang today as the Winnipeg Spliffs starting pitcher came to terms with the club.

Set to make $25,200,000 over the upcoming 7 years, Wang signed primarily out of loyalty to the organization, thrilling the most diehard supporters who think there isn't much loyalty in a market driven by free agency.

"This was a no brainer for us" says GM Stephen Gilmore. "Wang will be a dominate ace of this league for many years to come, and with the Free Agent prices these days, we knew we'd have to pay big if we waited until his rookie years were done. This is a good pay increase for Wang, but also a great long term investment for us and our fan" Gilmore continued to say.

Through a translator, C.M. Wang showed his excitement for the long term commitment and the extra money, and he was also pleased to receive a no trade clause.

Did You Know....
NewsDid you know...

...St. Albans has been starting infielder Rafael Furcal in CF almost all season due to a lack of even adequate outfielders in Hicktown? No argument here that the Dragons need Furcal in the lineup to create havoc on the basepaths but at the cost of 24 errors in 120 games and a weak arm? Does Cabrera's gold glove at 2B and dinky sub .300 OBP grant him the starting position at second or does his $9,000,000 salary keep him there? Why not trade for an average OFer...Abreu would have been a god-send on this team and he was readily available at the trade deadline. Will this come back to haunt the Dragons in their quest for the NL Central Crown?

...that the Yankees have been the most prolific homerun hitters in the league? Their power, along with the BoSox's struggles this season have kept them in the hunt for the playoffs when no one expected them to be close to contending. Of course it helps to have a career year from SS Edgar Renteria who has more than doubled his average homerun output per season, already has 7 more RBIs than his previous best season, and has 30 more runs scored than his previous best season. Last season the man hit almost a full 80 points less in batting average, half the homeruns, and batted in almost half less! When he was signed in free agency I thought he was overpriced but he has been a bargain for the Yanks this year!

...Washington has 5 starters with 15+ losses a piece?!? This might even be a record of futility the hapless Dover Destroyers never sank! All five have ERAs over 5.00 and four are over 6.00! Their closer has 22 saves and only 2 losses despite a frightful 8.34 ERA!
